Sheen Falls Lodge – A Heavenly Hideaway

Sheen Falls Lodge – A Heavenly Hideaway

Sheen Falls Lodge has always been on my bucket list of Irish hotels to visit. My corner of social media has brought some incredible opportunities my way so when the invitation to visit Sheen Falls Lodge came up, we jumped at it. For clarity, all of these opinions are my own. I was not asked to write this review in exchange for the stay. We enjoyed the visit so much I wanted to share it with you. I am always asked for hotel and spa recommendations on Instagram and Sheen Falls Lodge is now being added to that list!

Welcome To Sheen Falls Lodge

We drove from Cork to Kenmare in under 2 hours. The road into Kenmare has recently been resurfaced so even though it was dark and raining, the drive was easy and pleasant. Sheen Falls is well sign posted and easy to find. Driving through the grounds to the main entrance you immediately know you are somewhere peaceful and calm. We were gretted with friendly smiles, a warm welcome and offers of help with bags and valet parking. On checking in Prinoy (Duty Manager) escorted us to our room.

The Room…

As we were shown to our room by Prinoy, he revealed that we had been upgraded to The Presential Suite. There were muffled squeals of excitement and gratitude as we walked through the corridors. The room is as impressive as it sounds. Through the double door entrance you are greeted by steps that lead to a living area. Dining table, chairs, sofas, coffee machine, mini bar and an open fire are waiting for you. Most impressive is the balcony over looking the falls which had filled after the days rain. The sound of the rushing water, gently lit, and the sound of silence soothed away any thoughts of the real world.

Our master bedroom had a second living space with desk, sofa, tv and a walk in wardrobe. The bed was big, soft, clean and most importantly so inviting. Air conditioning allowed us to control the temperature. My bug bear in 5 star hotels is poor air conditioning. The room always over heats making it too uncomfortable to sleep but we had no such problems here.

Then we have the bathroom. And oh my, what a bathroom. Soft white robes handing on the wall, an abundance of fluffy towels, separate shower, double basin and jacuzzi bath. There are full sized Elemis bath and body products in the shower and sink area.

The Spa at Sheen Falls Lodge

During our stay we were treated to a spa treatment in the award winning Easanna Wellness & Spa. Spa Facilities include an Indoor heated pool, Sauna, Steam room, Jacuzzi, 5 treatment rooms including a couples suite, wet room, 2 single treatment rooms, Manicure & pedicure suite, hair & makeup salon, relaxation room serving complimentary herbal teas when taking a treatment and a fitness suite with state of the art equipment.

Padraig chose the Rejuvenating Massage and I chose the Total Massage Journey which included scalp massage, full body massage and dry body brushing. Let me tell you, I have had a lot of spa treatments but this was incredible. My therapist was Jacqueline and if you ever go to Sheen Falls Lodge for a spa treatment you must ask for her. Jacqueline has magic hands. Afterwards my skin felt silky smooth and I really felt that my circulation was improved especially in areas where I have cellulite. This would be the ideal treatment before a wedding or sun holiday.

Let Us Talk Food.

No hotel review would be complete without talking about the food. On our first night we arrived at 7.30pm so had a quick change and ate in the hotel bar. I had a delicious steak while Padraig ordered the chicken. The real star comes from the Falls Restaurant on Saturday night. From start to finish it was a delicious dining experience. Begining with drinks, we were advised by Ciaran Murphy (an incredibly knowledgible, friendly and enthusiastic manager) to try the signiture cocktail. Great start! We were then served H’or Derves of braised beef with pickled cauliflower and a macaron of beetroot and goats cheese.

I started with Quail, while Padraig started with Languistine. Both dishes I would order again. My main course was a beautifully cooked piece of Rock Bass while Padraig enjoyed the duck. To finish there was chocolate tarte and an apple muille fuille. Each course was described to us by our host, served promptly and hot. The service was perfect. Polite, efficient and attentive but not overly so. We didn’t feel rushed and enjoyed a relaxing few hours of eating and chatting in a happy bubble.

Breakfast was equally delicious and the perfect start to the day. On our first morning we enjoyed room service where I ordered pancakes. The final morning we ventured to the restaurant for breakfast and enjoyed one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had.

Would We Return?

In a heartbeat. Once we arrived we immediately went into a bubble of relaxation. The hotel has endless options for activities but we chose to utilize our time to relax. The TV in our room had smart view so we linked up netflix and just watched series, slept, ate and enjoyed every second. You can be as adventurous as you wish in your exploring but if you are looking to switch off? Sheen Falls Lodge is the place to go. From the staff to the surroundings to the food and the turn down service it was a true 5 star experience.
