Autumn is my favourite time of year for fashion. Cosy knitwear, boots, warm colours and layered clothing are so inviting and comfortable. I am partnering with TK Maxx again this month to bring you some of my favourite autumnal pieces for your wardrobe. As you know TK Maxx has a huge range of big brands for up to 60% less than the recommended retail price. I have previously shown you how I dress Finn for the outdoors HERE and how I revamped my patio to enjoy summer dining HERE. All while on a budget and all from TK Maxx.
Before deciding what I needed for my autumn wardrobe I went through everything that I already had on offer. I had lots of denim, dresses and skirts so I decided I wanted a really beautiful basic knit jumper and a pair of boots that would go with everything. As for outerwear my wardrobe lacked a lighter coat for layering throughout the autumn months. So, armed with a list, I went to my local TK Maxx to see what I could find. The shopping trip was a huge success. I got exactly what I needed and I also found some great value essentials for Finn. AND with TK Maxx being the home of ridiculous possibilities (and value), I was able to treat myself to a beautiful handbag.
What I Bought:
Knee boots with a comfortable block heel
Cream roll neck jumper
Dark green trench coat
Brown leather handbag
So for this blog post I wanted to do something different. Rather than show the clothes as a haul I wanted to wear them for a week and document the different ways I styled them. When recommending basics to buy I always suggest going for pieces you can wear over and over again and in several different ways. I feel this really helps ensure you are getting the most value for money in terms of cost per wear.
Autumn Outfit Number One…
The boots I found were a serious bargain. They are the perfect colour, height and fit. I knew immediately that I would get a lot of wear from them. My first outfit was the cream roll neck jumper styled with a pair of basic blue denim and my new boots. Such an easy outfit to throw on but still look like you made an effort.
Outfit Number Two…
I had a dress in my wardrobe for a few weeks but struggled to style it in terms of footwear. It went perfectly with my new boots. As the day went on and the weather became cooler, I layered my cream roll neck over the top for extra warmth and a more relaxed feel.
Outfit Number Three…
Inspired by yesterday’s outfit I wanted to look at how I could wear my midi skirts into the cooler months. I had one snake print skirt in my wardrobe that I feared I would not wear again until next summer. Pairing it with my new boots and the roll neck jumper gave the skirt a whole new look!
Outfit Number Four…..
Here I simply styled my new trench coat with straight leg jeans, the cream roll neck and added a pop of leopard print with my shoes to stay on trend. A very casual outfit elevated ever so slightly into a very put together style. Perfect for Saturday shopping or Sunday brunch. Can you tell how much I love that jumper?
Outfit Number Five….
My final look is a casual ‘on duty Mom’ style. Here I paired the trench coat with simple black jeans, sweater and trainers. This coat is such an easy piece to wear. I think it makes the perfect transitional autumn piece for your wardrobe update.
Updating Finn’s Autumn Wardrobe..
Finn needed very little to bring his wardrobe into the cooler months. He had lots of denim, hooded sweatshirts and knitwear from earlier in the year. He did however need sturdier footwear and a new coat. I initially went to store to look for wellies but I came across these grey boots instead. They had a side zip, were lined, Finn found them comfortable and the colour would go with a host of items he already owned.
I also love love LOVE the coat I found for him. Warm, weather appropriate, no itchy fur around the colour and a detachable hood! TK Maxx had so many choices for outerwear in the end I picked this one because of the colour. It will hold dirt easily and Finn can wear it everywhere.
I saved a little on the coat as I had budgeted to spend a little more, therefore I could not resist picking him up the sweatshirt, a shirt and chinos too! Resisting kids clothing is so hard!
My Top Tips For Updating Autumn Wardrobe..
* Check through all of the items you already have. Try to be really objective in what you think you might actually need. Compile a list and take it to store with you.
* Browse style inspiration sites to get some ideas on the style of clothing you might want to try on. I find this the best way for helping me to put outfits together.
* Once in store go for good quality basics. This is easy in TK Maxx as the variety they have on offer is impressive and the savings really help!
* Ask yourself ‘what will this pair with that I already own?’ If the answer is less than three items put it back.
* When shopping for kids, size up where you can, go for easy wash material and deeper colours.
* Remember there are no rules when it comes to finding your style. Wear what you find comfortable, not what is on trend. You will feel so much more comfortable and glow with confidence.
* Layer, layer and layer. As I found, layering up my clothing gave me so many more options within my wardrobe.
So there we have my best autumn friendly finds in TK Maxx! If you go in store and see something you like do not leave it behind. If you see something you love grab it, because it won’t stick around for long and the good stuff gets snapped up quickly!! What is on your autumn wishlist?
