Fota Island Resort is a Five Star luxury hotel here in Cork. A couple of weeks ago we were invited down for an overnight stay and Spa treatments which we readily accepted! When you have a young family is can be hard to get away for even a night. Fota Island may just mean a visit to the Wildlife Park or to see Santa at Christmas time. We do love our little weekend escapes when we can manage them. Sometimes time is tight so a trip closer to home is perfect. Outside of that, I am always asked to recommend places to stay in Cork on Instagram. I can now happily add Fota Island Resort to that list!
Fota Island Resort
The hotel itself is set in the most beautiful grounds. Lots of flowers and perfectly manicured gardens. You can sit outside and enjoy a drink or simply read and relax. Every detail is beautiful and we happily strolled around in the sunshine. The silence is what I noticed first. Just by being there we started to relax.
Fota Island Resort – The Room
On arrival we were shown to our room and had to hold back the excitement of being upgraded to a suite. Never have we stayed in such a beautiful room before. Two bathrooms, dressing area, bath, king sized bed, lounge, and a huge terrace just for us. If you watched my Instagram Stories from that day you will remember just how beautiful it was.
The bathroom included a TV, toiletries, lots of fresh towels, robes and slippers which I took full advantage of.
We sat on our terrace and enjoyed a drink in the beautiful weather before our Spa treatments.
Fota Island Resort – The Spa
We were treated to a full body chocolate massage which is a new offering on the Fota Island Resort menu. It literally is what you think. A full body massage using melted chocolate!!! Now I can safely say it smelt amazing and my skin was so so soft afterwards. The spa is located deep in the woodland with facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Afterwards we were treated to more chocolate delights and a glass of bubbly.
Dinner in The Clubhouse
After our massage, we returned to the room and got ready for dinner. Ian, the guest relations manager was extremely helpful in reserving us a beautiful table and escorting us from the hotel to The Clubhouse. The view was as beautiful as every other area of the hotel. The food was outstanding.
For starters we both order the Fishcakes. Generously portioned and full of flavour I would return for these alone.
Main course was a prawn curry for Padraig and a T-Bone steak for me. Again, I could not fault either dish. We had looked at The Clubhouse for our wedding a few years ago and as we ate we realized how beautiful it would have been.
No meal is complete without desert and I devoured a creme brulee with cherry compote and white chocolate ice cream.
The Most Special Breakfast
After a peaceful nights sleep in the most comfortable bed we woke up to breakfast served on the terrace. I can not tell you how special it was. We both felt like royalty!! Everything from juice, fry up, pancakes, french toast and pastries. It was all…. you guessed it! Delicious!!!
The Verdict
I can not fault one thing about our stay in Fota Island Resort. If you follow my hotel reviews you know I include both the good and the bad. I have nothing bad to say here except that we had to leave. From the welcome in reception, to the spa treatments, to the staff in the clubhouse to the food. All as you would expect from a 5 Star luxury hotel. I would recommend a special break away with your loved one, I don’t think you would regret it.
