Powerscourt Hotel – Our Anniversary Night Away

powerscourt hotel wicklow 5 star

Powerscourt Hotel in Co. Wicklow has long been on my wishlist for hotels to visit. For our Anniversary or Birthdays we always stay in a really nice hotel. This past October we booked into Powerscourt for our second wedding anniversary. The second I walked into the hotel I felt myself exhale. The foyer is truly beautiful. We chose a deluxe mountain view room with breakfast. Here is how we got on.

Powerscourt – The Room

Upon opening the door of the room we were immediately impressed. Beautifully decorated in a classic style with soft relaxing greens and neutral tones. To the right there was a walk in wardrobe/dressing area. Lots of space to unpack and store luggage. On the left there was a double door leading to the mot beautiful hotel bathroom. Large bath, separate shower, separate toilet and double sink. Towels, ESPA toiletries, robes and slippers were all provided.

As you pass into the main room you have tea and coffee making facilities as well as a fridge stocked with all of the drinks you could want. The room itself is large and luxurious. Flat screen TV, seating area, huge bed and a desk. The bed was so comfortable. I had just finished night duty that morning and it was heaven to sleep in.

The room had doors leading out onto a patio with views of the mountains. We were on a lower level so I feel if we return we might like a room on a higher floor for a better mountain view but to be honest, we were not that bothered.

Dinner in Powerscourt

We chose to eat in the Sika Restaurant. A set three course menu for 55 euro per person. The food was delicious! Starters of scallops and pork belly was followed by chicken and steak. For desert we had an amzing chocolate sphere. The kind where you pour hot chocolate sauce over the sphere and it melts to reveal your after dinner treat. You can view the full menu here.

If that is too formal for you there are other dinning options in the form of McGills Bar. We enjoyed our meal in Sika and I would recommend a visit here during your stay.

Breakfast At Powerscourt

If there is one thing I love it is a good hotel breakfast. Powerscourt did not disappoint. The options were endless. From fresh muffins to a full Irish. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, pancakes and more. We were completely set up for our day of travelling ahead.

The Verdict

I would highly recommend a visit to Powerscourt Hotel. My only complaint is that we didn’t have longer there. We would have loved to stay longer and enjoy a spa treatment but we had to catch our flight to Amsterdam. We left feeling so relaxed and rested. So much so that we are planning a return visit for two nights in February. Tops marks! Our room cost 235 euro for the night including breakfast. Extremely good value for money. You can read more about the hotel here.

Have you been? Where should I go next?
