Summer Survival: Beating The Bloat

Summer Survival: Beating The Bloat

Summer is here and those of us who didn’t start prepping in January are desperately trying to Beat The Bloat. This is something I have talked about on my Snapchat (fitfashionmom) several times. It is a subject I get the most questions on. I am not a nutritionist or a personal trainer. I have spent many years of trying to lose weight I have picked up a few tips along the way. The advice in this post is based on my personal experience and is what works for me. If you are going to try any of these tips and have any medical issues then please consult a professional or seek medical advice.

bloat, water, weightloss

Bloat Weapon 1: Water

The first tip is a very obvious one. Water. It is free, it is everywhere and it is an essential element in helping our bodies work efficiently. You should aim for 2-3 litres a day. A lot of what we perceive as bloat is water retention. To lose that water bloat you have to drink water. Flush it out. This will make the biggest difference. I hate the taste of plain water so I add lemon or lime juice for flavour. I love these Bolero Sachets too. They are sugar free and taste delicious! You can buy them from BodyFirst Nutrition for 60 cent each HERE.

bloat, weightloss, apple cider vinegar

Bloat Weapon 2: Apple Cider Vinegar

I introduced apple cider vinegar coming up to my wedding and it made a huge difference! I found this really helped with any bloat as it is great for you digestive system. It can also help with balancing blood sugars keeping cravings at bay. I love the Braggs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and you can buy it for 11.99 euro HERE. Avoid the temptation to sweeten it. Dilute 2 tablespoons with a little plain water and chug!!

bloat, ginseng, weightloss

Bloat Weapon 3: Siberian Gingseng

This has been used for years to help fight stress by supporting the adrenal glands. When we are stressed we store fat around our middles thanks to cortisol (the stress hormone). I also find when I am less stressed, I crave less sugar and comfort eating. These are available in most health shops and HERE.

bloat, epsom salts

Bloat Weapon 4: Epsom Salts

If you are going to do one thing for your body to help with water retention, then let an Epsom salt bath be it! I swear by Epsom salts in my bath before an event or a night out. You will feel thirsty during so make sure you bring a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated and flush out the rest of that bloat!! I love the Ultra Pure Labs and I buy from Pharmacy First in Douglas Village Shopping Centre.

bloat, dandelion

Bloat Weapon 5: Dandelion

Dandelion is a natural diuretic. Again, seek medical advice if you have any medical conditions before trying this one. It will help you excrete that excess water bloat. I usually add it to my Apple Cider Vinegar mixture in the morning especially around certain times of the month. I use the brand Vogel which you can buy HERE.

Bloat Weapon 6: Your Diet

Our diet is the biggest cause of bloating. Salty, fatty foods and white processed carbohydrates are the main culprits. If you do want to look your best this summer fill up on lean proteins, vegetables, fruit, 0% fat greek yoghurt, and small amounts of wholegrains. See some helpful recipes: Grain Free Granola Fish Cakes Overnight Oats.

Bloat Weapon 7: Dry Body Brushing

Finally I highly recommend you start dry body brushing. Every night before your shower or bath. Start at your feet using long sweeping motions upwards towards your heart. This stimulates your circulation and encourages sluggish lymph systems into action!! I use a brush by The Body Shop which you can buy HERE.

So there you have it! My top tips for beating the bloat this summer. Maybe next year I’ll have started in January. Then again I say that every year…..
