Welcome to the first post on my brand new website. Todays post is all about Max Factor’s new range of Velvet Matte Lipstick. When I opened the box to find seven new lipsticks I squealed! I love nothing more than a new lippie. I avoided lipsticks for so many years, preferring instead to wear lipgloss as I never felt they suited me. I think I was traumatised after seeing old photo’s of me wearing Heather Shimmer as a teenager. Hands up if you were a slave to Heather Shimmer? I see you hiding your face in shame out there! You can’t hide from me! Fast forward a few years and I now have a slight obsession with lipsticks in all shades and formulas. Except matte ones. Matte and I are not friends. My lips are so dry that any matte liquid lipstick just feels like chalk on me after 30 minutes. Now, I do have a secret weapon that has changed my lipstick game but you’ll hear more about that in my upcoming skincare video! Anyway, back to the new lipsticks!
I was sceptical about these matte lipsticks suiting me. The colours were absolutely stunning but I worried about the formula. There are seven very wearable colours from a subtle nude to a deep red. I’m a bit settled into a nude or red routine when it comes to lip colour but the peach, pink and orange shades also suited my skin tone. This has seen me experiment a bit more in the last week! Winner Winner! I swatched each lipstick before trying them on and I was immediately impressed with the pigmentation. Vivid colour in one stripe. We were off to a good start.
The official press release claims that these new additions provide a striking matte lip with a moisturised velvet feel. They have a soft satin matte finish, are infused with oils and butters and that the colour glides smoothly across the lips. Is this accurate? It’s a resounding yes from me! I found these so easy to apply. They don’t dry to that matte matte finish that can leave you feeling uncomfortable. Instead they dry to s soft sheen that allows you to move your lips without cracking. The colour pay off on the lip is just as pigmented as my arm swatches. So far so good. How did they last?
I applied the nude colour in the morning and went about my day. I chatted on social media, had several drinks and ate lunch without the need to reapply. They do lose that initial sheen but your lips are still left with a decent, even colour. They reapply very easily without patchiness or breaking when needed. I was left very impressed indeed. Did they pass the 12 hour shift test? Yes they did! I got from 7am to after lunch at 3pm without needing to top up. That is a fairly good recommendation right there. I probably could have done with reapplying sooner but when you are flying around the emergency department, lipstick is the last thing on your mind! The main thing is the colour didn’t disappear completely and my lips didn’t dry out.
While these were press samples, I would not hesitate to re-purchase these when needed or if new colours are added to the line. They are priced at a very affordable 10.99 euro and I’ve seen them in my local boots. You can buy them online HERE.
