Roosters Piri Piri Douglas: Child Friendly

Roosters Piri Piri Douglas: Child Friendly

Last night Finn was invited to try Roosters Piri Piri Douglas kids menu. He couldn’t possibly go alone, so hubby and I happily went too! Roosters has been opened in Cork for 2 years now and for the life of me I can’t understand HOW I haven’t tried it before now. Parents of the world will understand the struggle of eating out with child in tow. Especially a child who is a fussy eater. Even when we order him items we know he eats, he manages to poke at it like I’ve asked him to eat rotten eyeballs. So, armed with my bad experiences, off we went to Roosters.

First of all for a rainy Thursday evening, most of the tables were full. When I commented on this to Mark (owner) he imformed me that this is quiet for them! He said business is thriving with queues forming at lunch times and weekends. It is not hard to see why. The food here is incredible. The decor is funky without being over powering. I loved the images on the walls. Now onto the food!

The children’s menu is great value for money. €7.95 for a main, side, refillable drink and a desert. Lots of options available from chicken to burgers, rice, chips, corn on the cob, soft drinks and smoothies. High quality ingredients, healthy options and for under a tenner. I’m sold!!

The child’s place was set with crayons and an activity sheet. Finn usually throws these to one side but this one was engaging and he actually did the word search! Unheard of. Finn ordered a burger with fries. Seeing as the Burger is a freshly made meat patty from a local farmer in Ballincollig, I had no hesitation about letting him eat it.

Us adults ordered chicken with a variety of sides. Corn in the cob, mash potatoes, fries, sweet potato fries, slaw and the best rice I’ve ever tasted. It’s so easy to eat clean here. The chicken is also sourced here in cork, from Clonakilty. It tasted fresh, juicy and full of flavour. I had the lemon and herb on mine, hubby went for medium spice on his. So so good. I genuinely have nothing bad to say.

It didn’t end there. We had desert! Firstly, sweet potato fries with ice cream and caramel sauce sounds so wrong. It tastes really really great though!! Warm, crunchy and sweet! The brownie sundae was delicious and the chocolate cake Finn approved!!

Overall we had a great dining experience. Completely child friendly, great quality food and reasonable priced. Local produce, local staff and a local business! Go support!!
