When a group of people come together with a passion for their city and the ability to think outside the box, you end up with Festival Cork. Launched in 2016, its aim is to celebrate all of the excellent food and drink our county and country have to offer. Last week I had the good fortune to participate in The Burger Festival. A festival that celebrates burgers? Hello!! I’m in!! It ran across the city over 35 venues and I was very excited. I was invited to try two of the venues and I was not disappointed.
First up was the launch in The Yellow Sub where we enjoyed the most delicious sliders with sides of Mac N Cheese and a Brownie to finish it all off. The Yellow Sub can be found on Grand Parade and it’s such a cool venue. Set on the boardwalk and serving sliders and tacos. From the sticky beef to the spicy chicken and the Aussie slider with its own mini fried quail egg. The staff were friendly and welcoming. An intimate venue with a cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend a visit here as I will certainly be returning.
Then onto Sober Lane Cork. Those of you following my Snapchat will know that Sober Lane is one of my favourite places to eat. Brunch or dinner. They’ve got you covered. I’ve brought Finn here on weekends as the brunch menu is so reasonable and budget friendly. High quality food and cheaper than a happy meal.
For the Burger Festival we sampled The Tina Turner and The Trump burgers. Both equally delicious. I must plead my case though and insist The Tina Turner is made a permanent fixture!! Beef Patty with smoked cheddar, Rebel Chilli sauce and crispy onions. That’ll do nicely, thanks!
I hope that everyone will support Festival Cork and keep an eye on upcoming events. It’s so important for us as a city to have something like this. Our city is so beautiful and vibrant with amazing food. Why not celebrate it?
